Story:

We had a vision of showing the protagonist attracting a mermaid from the ocean. After exploring the rocks and discovering the perfume, our lead sprays the scent on himself and suddenly finds himself in the water with a mysterious woman. Whether this is a fantasy or reality is uncertain.

Production & Casting:

We cast a real life couple, Ariela and Mika, whose chemistry together was undeniable. To execute this video production, we hired local multimedia talent. We made a small but mighty team. Our fashion styling was focused on creating a look for our models to appear as a mermaid from the ocean, but in 2023. We had to make our Vancouver coastline look like Barbados. The crew did their own fashion styling and sourcing, to create a modern and sleek look for the models. We developed a storyboard to create the concept and plan out all our shots.

On the shoot day itself, it was clear skies and gorgeous weather. We shot on the first day of September. Our shoot began right before dawn and ran through into early afternoon. With two locations in stunning Whytecliff Park, in West Vancouver, we shot scenes across the rocky shores and beautiful ocean coastline.

The result? A 30 second commercial video, along with still images and social media clips, that Blackcliff can use on its website and social media accounts.

Though the water was a little cold, the shoot was a success. A few highlights for us were using an underwater aquarium for our scenes, lens filters for a dreamy effect, and a hummingbird that came to visit us on set. Our crew worked well together, anticipating and preparing for whatever came up. With our first shoot wrapped, we are excited to continue expanding Nashbox’s video production offering for clients.
